Smartwatches and AI: Could they have saved my dad?

In 1994, I lost my hero... My Dad. He and I were very, very close and they used to call me his shadow because I was always with him everywhere. Unfortunately, when he was only 66, we lost him to an aorta aneurysm. He had had high cholesterol combined with blood pressure issues. So, when he developed a blood clot and it combined with his high blood pressure, we lost him. It turns out that he was not taking his medicine on a regular basis because he was trying to save money for him and my mom by not refilling his medicine regularly. If we, his kids, had known, obviously that would not have been occurring and he could have lived to an older age.

So, every time I read an article on where #smartwatches are going in monitoring a person's #health, it makes me think how it may have been different if my father had lived during today’s technological times. If he had had a smartwatch to monitor his health, his doctor and I would have known he was not taking his medicine. (Note: His doctor was a personal friend of mine and would have shared that information privately.)

In today's world, #Hispanics have less frequent access to healthcare either because there are less doctors that serve a particular Hispanic community or because of lower income levels. Therefore, Hispanics don't visit #doctors when they're older as frequently as they should.  Plus, many are doing what my father was doing which is to save money by not buying important medicines regularly to save their limited household funds. But now that #smartwatches by Samsung, Apple, and Fitbit have been approved by the FDA to monitor a person's health like heart irregularities, it can start creating change in #HispanicHealthcare. I know that just like my family would have done, there are many children that would buy their parents smartwatches once they are approved for monitoring blood pressure. And, if you were to combine smartwatch information with AI healthcare #software, doctors would then be able to have better monitoring of their patients’ healthcare symptoms when their patients are away from the doctor's office.

So, kudos to all the smartwatch manufacturers like #Apple, #Samsung, #Fitbit and others who continue to improve the ability of their smartwatches to serve as health monitoring devices for people. Please keep going and hopefully you'll find answers for everything so Hispanics and all cultures will make sure their parents are wearing smartwatches. And also, kudos to all companies that are developing healthcare #AI, like #Microsoft, #Nvidia, #Google and many others. All of your efforts will help us all!
